Exploring the Turquoise Coast by Boat: Our Visit to Yassıca, Gocek, and More

My family and I were looking for a unique way to experience the natural beauty and history of Turkey's famous Turquoise Coast region. After coming across an affordable daytrip exploring 12 islands by boat, we knew it would be the perfect outing. Not only would we get to visit several islands in a single day, but we'd learn about the culture and ecology of this special area from local expert guides.

Our boat tour set off from the harbor in Göcek, one of the top destinations along the Turquoise Coast. As we cruised past yachts and fishing boats, our captain began pointing out landmarks and sharing background on the area. The first stop was Yassıca Island, just a short ride away. We disembarked onto a sandy beach dotted with sunbathers enjoying the idyllic scenery.

Following a narrow path uphill, the lush interior of Yassıca Island revealed secluded coves and scattered ancient Greek ruins. Captain shared the history of how the island changed hands over centuries between various civilizations. Looking out to sea from the high points, the striking turquoise waters were dotted with islands as far as the eye could see. All too soon it was time to reboard, off to our next destination.

Next was the harbor town of Göcek itself, with its charming seaside restaurants and pastel-colored boats bobbing at dock. We wandered among the shops and admired the dramatic mountains rising steeply from the shoreline. Back on the boat, Captain steered us around the scenic Göcek Islands, pointing out highlights like Cleopatra's Bath, a deep-blue lagoon perfect for swimming.

After a refreshing swim stop, we continued to Red Island for a picnic lunch overlooking the vivid crimson cliffs that give the island its name. Glimpses of monk seals lounging on rocks added to the remote natural splendor. Spirits recharged, we sailed past secluded coves and inlets on our way to bustling Fethiye, one of the largest towns along the route.

More highlights included Gocek Island's scenic hiking trails and the shipbuilding history shared at Shipyard Island. Throughout the tour, Captain and the crew generously shared their local knowledge and ensured we made the most of each location. As the sun began to set behind the dramatic mountains, we reluctantly started the return trip, having experienced so much natural beauty and history in a single memorable day.
